An exceptionally rare and elegant Rosenthal porcelain demitasse cup and saucer, specially decorated for the prestigious American luxury jeweler Bailey, Banks & Biddle of Philadelphia.

The porcelain body bears the Rosenthal & Co. crossed RC crown mark, dating the blank porcelain to approximately 1891–1906, while the saucer carries the retailer's overglaze mark "Bailey, Banks & Biddle – Philadelphia." Pieces of this quality were produced as luxury presentation wares for distinguished retailers rather than standard factory production.

The cup features a magnificent hand-painted portrait of a young lady, executed with remarkable artistic finesse, framed by finely burnished raised gilt ornamentation. The portrait is complemented by an extraordinary decorative scheme consisting of:
